SECURITY arrangements for the papal visit last January and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in September and October will be used as a blueprint for next year’s International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu City.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Sarmiento told reporters during yesterday’s visit to Cebu City that security preparations for the two events will serve as a template for next year’s IEC.
Sarmiento and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin visited Cebu Central Command as part of their Christmas visit to the troops in Central Visayas.
Sarmiento said security preparations for the IEC will be supported by the national government.
“Crowd control will be emphasized for the international event as thousands of devotees will flock to churches to hear mass especially at the Sacred Heart Parish in Capitol and the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel,” he said.
