TEN barangays and two schools were awarded for being drug-free workplaces.
The awards were given by the Cebu City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) and Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) during the culminating activity for Drug Awareness Month.
Awardees were barangays Pulangbato, Taptap, Budlaan, Lusaran, Kamagayan, Tabunan, San Jose, Pari-an, Banilad and Pamutan.
Among schools, the Talamban National High School and Bulacao Community School-Elementary were recognized.
Dr. Alice Utlang, head of COSAP, said the award was based on their drug-testing operation in different barangays and schools in Cebu.
To win the award, all employees must undergo the drug test and must test negative for drug use. A barangay or a school with an employee who refuses to take the test is disqualified.
Barangay Budlaan and barangay Labangon won this year’s best Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) for the north district and south district, respectively.
Each barangay got P50,000 as cash prize.
Barangay Labangon was named best BADAC in Central Visayas.
A certificate of recognition was also given to seven recovering drug dependents who helped COSAP in the campaign against drug abuse. Lifetime achievement awards were also given to former congressmen Antonio V. Cuenco and retired police Director General Carmelo E. Valmoria for their anti-drug crusade.
