Off-road competition this weekend

Some of the best off-road drivers in the country together with their monster trucks gather in Cebu this weekend for the final leg of the 15th National Association of Filipino Off-Roaders (Nasfor) Extreme Off-road Series.

The two-day competition, which is held for the first time outside of Luzon, will be held in an off-road track put up in Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Competitors will  be vying for supremacy in the hopes of winning the coveted Nasfor Driver Of The Year award.

According to Nasfor president Ramon Toong, they chose Cebu as the venue for the final leg because they want to share their off-road passion to Cebuanos, who are actually very active in motorsports.  Their group wants to promote the sport and let Cebuanos see how exciting off-road racing can be.

A Cebuano himself, Toong believes that the sport, which is already growing globally, is something that Filipino drivers can excel in.

Michael Cerin of Davao Four-Wheelers currently leads the rankings for the Driver Of The Year award followed by Reynan Jayme of Waig Adventure Team.  Trailing at third is 2013 and 2014

Driver of the Year Tonton Dungca of the Kapampangan Racing Team (KRT). Also in the running for the prestigious award are 2009 and 2012 Driver Of The Year Red Diwa of Isabela Extreme and Pietro Jaime Garbes also of KRT.

A press conference will be held at the Citi Park Hotel in barangay Panagdait, Mabolo, Cebu City at 10 a.m.
