A 74-YEAR-OLD street caroler was severely injured after a 10-wheeler truck ran over her in Mandaue City.
Police said Precy Español suffered a broken left leg.
The woman was caroling on M.C. Briones Highway when the accident happened yesterday morning.
Police said when the traffic light turned green, the woman tried to run to the side of the road but was hit by the truck driven by Ian Genelao, 30.
Genelao told police he didn’t notice hitting the woman until he was alerted by his truck boy.
The woman was later found pinned down by the rear tire of the truck.
The driver and his helper pulled out the woman from under the truck and sought medical assistance. She was brought to a hospital in Cebu City.
The driver’s employer agreed to shoulder the woman’s medical expenses, said PO2 Ruben Cerdenia.
After the accident, Glenn Antigua, chief operation officer of Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, instructed traffic enforcers to keep carolers away from the street for their own safety.
