The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has approved a proposal to remove a portion of the center island along the Cebu South Coastal Road in front of the newly opened SM Seaside City Cebu.
Rey Gealon, Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) executive director, said this is a temporary solution to the traffic congestion in the area.
He said the center island will be restored as soon as the submerged U-turn slots will be established in the viaduct.
To avoid traffic jams, vehicles exiting from SM and bound for Cebu City will not be allowed to cross the opening in the center island.
DPWH regional director Ador Canlas said they will have to turn right at the junction of the Cebu South Coastal Road and the Church avenue and take the nearest U-turn toward Cebu City.
