Cebuano Toquero impresses in OneFC

Cebuano Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) prospect Eugene “El Torrero” Toquero put up a dominating performance in the undercard of the One Championships: Spirit of Champions at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila last Friday night.

Toquero, a native of Alcantara town, southwest Cebu, scored a technical knockout (TKO) victory against the erstwhile unbeaten foe Li Wei Bin of China.

Toquero, a former member of the Philippine National Team for Muay Thai, showcased his striking prowess and pummeled Bin in the opening rounds with combinations and kicks.

Bin and his corner decided to throw in the towel before the start of the third round, allowing Toquero to escape with his eighth victory in 10 fights.

Bin suffered his first loss in four fights.

In the main event, Filipino-American and former Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) contender Brandon “The Truth” Vera became the inaugural One Championships heavyweight champion when he easily knocked out last-minute opponent Paul Cheng of China.

The 38-year old Vera now has 18 wins with seven losses.

Vera connected a solid head kick that staggered Cheng and followed it up with a right hook that sent down his opponent to the canvas.

Vera finished off  Cheng with hammer fists to the face to end the bout with 26 seconds left in the first round.

Cheng replaced British MMA fighter Chi Lewis-Parry, who failed to submit his medical and drug exam results to One Championships officials.
