TEAM Japan Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Cebu won 15 gold medals to emerge as overall champions in the Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Karatedo Cup last Saturday at the Insular Square in Mandaue City.
Aside from the 15 golds, the team also had 14 silver medals and six bronze medals.
Dumaguete City’s COSCA Karatedo Club came in second with nine gold medals along with nine silver medals and two bronze medals while JKAB Mount Morrah Karatedo Club of Camotes Island settled for third, winning five gold medals, three silver medals and seven bronze medals.
Leading Team Japan Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Cebu’s haul were the Vidal siblings, who won a combined eight gold medals.
Rafael Vidal finished his campaign with four gold medals while his older sister Ricah Faith Vidal finished with three gold medals. Their youngest Ayanna Lein also won a gold medal.
Double gold medal winners were Chodie Maage, Cedrick Maage and Christine Sacedon. Stephen Durano added one gold medal.
The Vidal siblings along with Sacedon and her sisters Mary Leonor and Eliza and Jaime Sumalinog will be competing on Jan. 8 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena for the annual Adidas International Karatedo Championships.
Last January, Rafael Vidal won two gold medals in the prestigious tournament while Ayanna Lein won a single gold medal.
Around 10 karatedo clubs joined last Saturday’s tournament. Team Japan Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Cebu also hosted the inaugural Mayor Joel Quiño Karatedo Open Championships last August.
