Dumanjug gets new police chief

The new police chief of Dumanjug Police Station will face a tough task as he assumes his post tomorrow.

Sr. Inspector Julius Ompad, a lawyer, will replace Sr. Inspector Arvi Arbuis who is allegedly a victim of the political crossfire between the camp of Mayor Nelson Garcia and Vice Mayor Efren Guntrano Gica.

The Dumanjug Police Station has yet to receive the order for Arbuis’s transfer but according to Mayor Garcia, he learned that Ompad will take over the post on Wednesday.

When checked at the office of Cebu provincial Police office, a staff said the order has yet to be released.

In an interview, Garcia mentioned several tasks that Ompad should do aside from his main instruction for the police officer to remain neutral.

One of these tasks is to subject his policemen to a drug test because of reports that some of them are drug users.

Garcia said Ompad should cleanse the police station from undesirable policemen by requesting for their transfer.

Garcia said Ompad must also request for additional troops to augment the police force, which number did not even reach 20, and solve the crimes in the town.

Garcia assured that he will not use Ompad in politics.

Garcia said he does not know Ompad but he chose him considering that he is a lawyer.
