Suaco-Macachor wedding Jan. 9

SET for Saturday, Jan. 9, at 3:30 p.m., is the marriage of Rhoda Angelie Macachor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronolfo Macachor, to Jose Luis Cañizares Suaco, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jose Arturo Suaco, at Chateau by the Sea in Punta Engaño, Mactan.

Jelly and Joey, as they are fondly called by family and friends, will have the following as principal sponsors:Ramontito and Elizabeth Anne Garcia, Dennis Cabalfin and Rosario Utzurrum, Jose Mari Cañizares and Gloria Cañizares, Jose Maria and Maria Luisa Castro, Daniel and Elizabeth Ybañez.

There will be two matrons of honor, Leslie Ann Zamora-Alberca and Dr. Ira Dominique Alatraca-Malonzo, and two best men, Martin Suaco and Alister Jesus Cañizares.

In the bridal entourage are flower maidens Siobahn, Shannon, and Roisin O’Connor; flower girl Alessandra Alberca; and ring bearer Mikael Malonzo.

Attending the bridal couple during the ritual will be the secondary sponsors: Mary Gittel Pacamalan and Robert Diaz for the candle; Marienne Faye Bravo and Jose Diego  Cañizares for the cord; Dr. Mary Jane Abao and Alfonso  Cañizares Jr. for the veil.

Dinner and merriment at the venue will follow the wedding ceremony.

For today at the Casino Español at 6:30 p.m. is the anticipated Mass for tomorrow by Msgr. Achilles Dakay and following that many will stay on for the traditional New Year’s Eve ball. There will be cash prizes for the best in costume.

As it does every year the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel will hold its annual Sugbusog food festival of Cebuano cuisine, with the opening salvo set for 6 p.m. on Jan. 6, at the lobby.

It is a build up for the Sinulog festivities, part of which is the selection of Miss Cebu on Jan. 13 at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel, under the aegis of the Cebu City Tourism Commission.

The solemn procession of the Santo Niño will be in the afternoon of Jan. 16. In the early morning is the fluvial parade on the Cebu channel. We have our usual noon time date with the family of Jose Mari Miranda.

Sunday, Jan. 17, is for solemnity of the Santo Niño with high Mass at the Basilica. Then comes the street dancing of the Sinulog festivity.

The rest of the January calendar page is studded with more solemnities, granted that the International Eucharistic Congress will be held in Cebu between Sinulog and the month’s end. More than 14,000 delegates will fill up Cebu and its hotels, streets, what-have-you.

February’s calendar page is also beginning to fill up. The Lunar New Year starts on Feb. 8, and expect hotels and restaurants to have special events.

Ash Wednesday, the start of the season of Lent, comes on Feb. 10.

Valentines Day, Feb. 14, this year falls on a Sunday. Expect the traffic to be heavy on the eve, Saturday Night, and for many, just got paid.
