Pogoy to receive Pivotal Player award

TALISAY City-native Roger Ray Pogoy is set to be feted in the country’s prestigious Collegiate Basketball Awards for his outstanding performance in the sport as he will be conferred with the Pivotal Player award later this month in Greenhills.

Pogoy shone the brightest during the UAAP finals late last year when he led the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws to their first championship in a decade.

In an up-and-down series that went down the wire, Pogoy, who got his career started at the University of Cebu where he once won a juniors championship back in 2007, was a rock and averaged 14.7 points in the three-game finale.

The Pivotal Player award is given to players who made significant impact for their teams in the championship series.

Past winners of the honor include Garvo Lanete, Ryan Buenafe, Dave Marcelo, Kirk Long, Art dela Cruz, Alfred Aroga and Anthony Semerad – most of whom have moved on to play in the professional leagues.

The other recipient of the Pivotal Player award this year will be Letran’s Kevin Kent Racal who averaged 20 points in their masterful three-game win over the mighty San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA finals.

Also receiving awards are FEU coach Nash Racela and Aldin Ayo, the former Letran mentor now with La Salle.
