DOH: Hospital needs to upgrade security, but no procedural lapses

The Department of Health (DOH-7) said the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) needs to improve its security in light of the baby theft incident.

In terms of hospital protocol and procedures, DOH-7 asst. regional director Sophia Mancao said no lapses have been found.

“As we can see on the video the mother gave the newborn baby to the suspect,” Mancao said.

In a press briefing, Mancao said the woman suspect wore hospital uniform and gear.

She said it is also part of hospital protocol for a baby to undergo lab exams especially if further examination is needed.

The laboratory is near the exit of billing section and trauma center.

“We are still considering that this is an inside job.

We could not say that the suspect was an employee,” she said.

All hospital employees in the area are subject for investigation, Mancao said.

VSMMC is giving P100,000 reward to locate the suspect.

Hospital employees are also contributing to the amount

The incident is being investigated by both the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine National Police (PNP).
