CEBU golf standout Gen Nagai has an uphill climb ahead of his as he trails the pro-bound Jobim Carlos by 10 strokes after firing a 69 in yesterday’s third round of the men’s division of the Philippine Amateur (Stroke Play) Open Golf Championship at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.
Nagai, a proud product of the Cebu Country Club who now plays for the Seton Hall University Pirates men’s golf team in the US NCAA, now owns a three-day total of 217 and has his work cut out for him as he pursues Carlos, who did not let up and shot a six-under 66 for a nine-under 207 aggregate.
The other Cebu ace in the competition, Weiwei Gao, slowed down and had a 77 for a 226.
Carlos remained the man of the hour as he sustained his charge in a fiery frontside stint that saw him gun down five birdies before settling for one birdie in the back nine he highlighted with a couple of scrambling pars.
