POLICE in Central Visayas will set up more checkpoints to be able to strictly enforce the gun ban for the coming elections, which started yesterday.
“This is to perform our mandate for a fair election so that we will restrict the movement of armed men and groups to make sure the general public is protected,” said Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan, acting regional director of Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7).
He assured that the conduct of random checkpoints regionwide will abide by the rules under the police operational procedure, including the conduct of inspections in plain view and request for necessary documents from vehicle owners.
“This may cause inconvenience to some of our private citizens but we are appealing to them since we are only doing this for the general public,” he said.
The police will conduct checkpoints in the evening. The checkpoints will be moved to different locations every hour.
Yesterday, a checkpoint of the Talamban police caught a 28-year-old man, who was driving without license an unregistered motorcycle.
Niño Manaban was also caught with a pack of shabu inside his pocket.
He was detained at the Talamban police station pending the filing of charges.
