1993 Dragons beat 1987 Bros for elims sweep

THE 1993 Dragons completed a sweep of the elimination round as they blew away the 1987 Bros, 93-75, in Division 1 action in the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Sinulog Homecoming Cup last weekend at the USC North Campus gym along Mango Avenue, Cebu City.

Riding the crest of their morale-boosting win over the defending champions 1985 Legends, the Dragons continued their onslaught to bury the Bros and grab their ninth win against no losses.

Batch 1993 saw five men register double-figures in scoring led by Christopher Manal’s 18, Eduardo Banaag’s 14, Jade Ylanan’s 12 and Bong Eleazar and John Soon’s 11.

The Bros fell to their seventh loss in nine games.

Meanwhile, the Legends bounced back and clobbered the 1990 Titans, 80-66, to finish the eliminations with an 8-1 (win-loss) card, good for the second seed.

Lou Regidor and Bing Pua were up to their usual tricks as they scored 26 and 22, respectively.

In another game, the 1988 Barakos bested the 1992 Little Rascals, 82-59, behind another offensive explosion from Edmund Odulio, who fired in 36 points.

Dindo Sausa backed Odulio up with 20 markers as the Barakos tied the Titans for third place with identical 6-4 records.

In Division 2, the 2000 Millennium hiked its record up to 6-2 with a 48-44 squeaker over the 1996 Chubbies.

Ali Caballo led the winners in scoring with 17 while Lex Lauron chipped in 12.

The 2010 Pioneers ran roughshod over the 2003 Stallions, 87-48, in Division 3 to forge a three-way tie for third place at 5-3. Mike Rita had 15 while Ahlen Kikuchi pitched in 13 for Batch 2010 who are now tied with Batches 2007 and 2006.
