RESIDENTS of barangay Subangdaku were disappointed after learning that the Sto. Niño image won’t pass by their barangay in today’s Traslacion.
For the past years, the Traslacion route has passed by barangay Mabolo, Cebu City toward barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
This year, the Fiesta Señor organizers decided that the image will pass through barangays Banilad and Bakilid.
“At first medyo disappointed ko (At first I was disappointed) because we already have plans for Traslacion. We already put up streamers of Sto. Niño in our area,” Subangdaku barangay chairman Ernie Manatad told Cebu Daily News.
He said dancers have prepared for the activity.
Manatad said he only learned of the new route on TV.
He said the barangay will still proceed with their programs and the dancers will still perform from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. under the flyover.
Since he assumed office in 2010, Manatad said it has been a tradition of their barangay to present a dance performance for the Sto. Niño.
Subangdaku has 36 sitios, 13 of which chose Sto. Niño as their patron saint.
Marilou Suan, a 48-year-old resident in Subangdaku, said she would dance the Sinulog everytime the image would pass by in their area in the last five years.
“Nasagmuyo ko nga dili na maagi sa amoa ang Traslacion. Gipangandaman gyud na namo every year ang Traslacion (I’m disappointed that the Traslacion would no longer pass by our area. We always prepare a dance for Sto Niño every year),” she said.
