Top PH bowlers to join Sinulog Open National tilt

Philippine National team members Jeff Carabeo, Rj Bautista will join other top bowlers from Manila in the upcoming 17th Sinulog Open National Tournament of the Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA)-Cebu and Kmanjaro Africa slated this Feb. 1 to 7 at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

Around 40 bowling teams from various parts of the country will take part in the week-long tournament organized by BTA headed by President Bel Suelto, Jr.

According to Suelto, the competition is expected to be very tough in the masters’ event, especially with the presence of  vaunted keglers such as Carabeo and Bautista.

The local front is also a force to reckon with as favorites like Jomar Jumapao, Marc Matias, Bonnie Solis and Clarence Tiu from the PRIMA Pasta Bowling Team are  joining the tournament.

Aside from the aforementioned bowlers, around 120 other pinbusters will be seeing action in the tournament that will feature not just the masters event but also team event, doubles event, singles event and all events.

Despite the presence of the noted bowlers, the underdogs may still pull off a surprise in the masters event.

Last year, Davao Tenpin Bowling Association’s (DATBA) Sonny Dimaano Sr. shocked the competition in the masters event after he emerged on top, bringing home the P60,000 purse. Suelto Jr. also topped the masters event a few years back.

More than P150,000 worth of cash prizes are up for grabs in the longest running bowling tournament in Cebu.  The bowler with a perfect game will also walk away with P50,000.

The top 10 of the masters’ event will receive cash prizes along with the top three of the other categories.
