A LAPU-LAPU City based fireworks manufacturer named Homegrown JP Fireworks won this year’s Sinulog fireworks competition.

In second place was Pegasus Fireworks of Pulilan, Bulacan while DSS Fireworks of Dumaguete City placed third.

The three other contenders for the 8th Sinulog fireworks competition were Pyrohaven Fireworks of Bocaue, Bulacan, Flash Fireworks of Valenzuela City, and JTA Fireworks of Cagayan de Oro.

Already on its 8th year since launching in 2009, the competition is organized by Cebu-based fireworks company Pyroworks and SM City Cebu. Competition was tougher this year, said Brian Lim, president of Pyroworks.

Last year, contenders had to deal with a change in venue to a container yard across SM City Cebu and they had difficulties with the rough and uneven terrain.

Lim said this year’s contenders have a better playing field, having studied the terrain and planned their fireworks displays accordingly. Pyroworks also released a sneak peak for its Pyromusical tomorrow, also at SM City Cebu.

Viewers can expect more mainstream music, with the likes of Star Wars themes, and ‘Aldub’ songs. It will also be the longest show done by the company, at 10 minutes long, Lim said.

“Our event grows year on year. We have more people watching every year,” he said.
