Top local cagers to try out for Niños

The M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños will be staging tryouts for the team that will soon compete in the 2016 Countrywide Basketball League today at 8 a.m. at the Aznar Coliseum.

After a lengthy break from the commercial basketball scene, the Niños of longtime head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba is set to plunge back into the thick of things with a whole new roster that is expected to be bannered by two-time Cesafi MVP Mark Jayven Tallo of the Southwestern University Cobras.

Several of Cebu’s talented amateurs have already signified their intention to try their luck at making the team in the week-long tryouts. These include former Cesafi Mythical Five members Kevin Villafranca, formerly of the University of San Jose-Recoletos and John Abad, the ex-sentinel of the University of the Visayas.

Also expected to join today’s fray are former USJ-R guard James Regalado, reigning Cesafi three-point king Franz Arong of UV and ex-SWU hotshot Eleazar Armecin.

MLKP assistant coach, Rocky Alcoseba said that they are looking to fill out all the positions and hence, will be carefully evaluating the aspirants of the tryouts.

The CWBL is the project of the people behind the Philippine Collegiate Champions League, namely Atty. Rey Gamboa and coaching great Joe Lipa.
