The Sinulog festivities left at least 110 tons of garbage, according to the Department of Public Service (DPS).

But DPS head Dionisio Gualiza said this year’s garbage volume is lesser than last year’s 197 tons.

The biggest volume of garbage collected was from Plaza Independencia, Fuente Osmeña and Mango Avenue.

“Our team collected plastic bottles mostly along the carousel route, especially in Osmeña Blvd.,” he said.

Gualisa said around 500 DPS employees including barangay environmental office personnel, metro aid workers and volunteers were deployed to clean the streets after the parade.

“I’m quite glad that this year’s collection was lesser compared to last year’s. But let us not stop educating the public,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team (CCESET) said that they apprehended 938 people, most of whom were youth caught littering, smoking and urinating in public places.

She said those who were issued tickets violated City Ordinance 1361 or the Ordinance Establishing System of Garbage Collection, Imposing Fees therefore, and for other Related Purposes.

CESET Chief Grace Luardo said those who were apprehended were drunk youths in Fuente Osmeña and Mango Ave.

Luardo advised them to settle the P500 fine immediately to avoid the issuance of arrest warrants.
