Police collar nine for pickpocketing during the Sinulog

A suspected pickpocket chose the wrong victim.

Guillermo Diaz is now detained after his supposed victim, Anna (not her real name), enforced citizens arrest on the suspect whom she caught in the act of taking her iPhone6 around 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Anna, who was then watching the Sinulog grand parade, said she notice Diaz try to taker her iPhone6 from inside her bag.

She held the suspect’s hand and called help from a policeman who was nearby.

Personnel from the Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) also arrested eight of Diaz’ cohorts during a follow up operation in barangay Carreta in Cebu City at noontime on Monday.

Arrested were Arvin Jan Ballesteros, 22; Renz Lester Boncalan, 26; Cindy Mercado; Carla Mendoza, 23; May Vilasco, 25; Adrian Lopez, 34; Cris Ramos Fernandez, 33; and Charizze Cruz Adriano, 24.

The suspects are now at the CCPO detention cell while police prepare for the filing of charges against them.
