Bus hits, kills Korean

A Korean national died while his compatriot was seriously injured after they were hit by a passenger bus in barangay Bulacao, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Donggeun Lang, 22, (male) and Hyegim Lee, 22, (female) were crossing N. Bacalso Avenue on Monday night when they were hit by a Ceres bus driven by Joventino Suerte last Monday night.

The bus was headed to Oslob town, south Cebu.

Police said the impact threw the victims to the center island.

The bus’s windshield cracked, an indication that the bus was running at high speed when it hit the victims, police said.

Suerte told police he lost control of the wheel that caused the accident.

Lang was declared dead when he and Lee were brought by paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) to Cebu Doctors’ Hospital, said PO1 Rosauro Pasumala of the Talisay City Police Station.

Lee sustained injuries in different parts of the body and was under observation.

Police said the two Koreans came from the Cebu English Language Center (CELC) when they met the accident.

Police said the bus company promised to extend financial assistance to the victims.

Police said reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injuries may be filed against the bus driver, who was detained at the Talisay City Jail.

The victims’ families in Korea have already been informed of the incident, said police.
