AS the Archdiocese of Cebu wraps up its preparations for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) that will officially start on January 24, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD 7) has also identified some of its staff to help in camp management and possible emergency situation.

“We have committed 60 staff mostly composed of social workers to help manage the help desk for lost and found children,” said DSWD regional director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre.

She said the DSWD staff will be deployed from January 24 to 31 throughout the entire duration of the  IEC.

The IEC will begin with a Mass by Cardinal Charles Maung Bo from Myanmar at the Plaza Independencia. Cardinal Bo will also celebrate, in behalf of Pope Francis, the Pontifical Mass at 4 p.m. on January 24.

Manila Archbishop Luis Cardinal Tagle will be the congress speaker on January 28 at the IEC Pavilion. A Visita Iglesia or church visit will also be held among parishes in Metro Cebu including the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Capitol, Redemptorist Church, Santo Rosario Church, Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, Asilo dela Milagrosa, Sacred Heart Parish, and Cebu Cathedral.

On Jan. 29, the delegates will also be brought to their foster families as part of the immersion activity while a procession will be held from Capitol to Plaza Independencia in the afternoon.

There will be Masses on January 28 at the Hoops Dome, Capitol building quadrangle on Jan. 29, and at the South Road Properties on January 31.
