Lawyer Winston Garcia, One Cebu gubernatorial bet, is calling on the Provincial Board (PB) to reject outright the P250-million heavy equipment deal with ConEquip.
In a press release, Garcia said it would “help to dispel rumors that some Capitol officials and their family members received kickbacks from the dubious deal.”
Garcia claimed rumors continue to circulate that the winning bidder now “holds the upper hand by allegedly blackmailing the Cebu Provincial Government with disclosure of an alleged pay-off amounting to P10 million deposited into their bank accounts if the deal were to be cancelled.”
The deal was met with controversy when it was revealed that the BAC chose the “highest bidder” and that some of the items being offered were “overpriced.”
An ad hoc committee has scheduled another hearing within this week to guide board members on how they will vote.
PB Member Grecilda Sanchez, chairperson of the ad hoc committee tasked to evaluate business within the Bids and Awards Committee, said that Garcia should just allow them to do their job.
“He doesn’t have to preempt anything,” she said.
