Motorace Racing Team to vie in XTerra Albay

THE MOTORACE Racing Team will make its debut in the upcoming XTerra Albay on Feb. 7.

Headed by 49-year old veteran triathlete Tenggoy Colmenares, the four-man Motorace triathlon team, which was formed last year, will be competing against foreign and local bets in the 1.5-kilometer swim, 30k off-road bike and 11k off-road trail run in the foot hills of Mayon Volcano.

Colmenares, the defending champion of the 45-49 years old category, will be joined by Motorace Philippines president Jonel Borromeo, his brother Chipi Borromeo and with newly recruited mountain bike expert Tolits Albina from Dumaguete.

“I trained hard for this race because there’s going to be a tough competition,” Colmenares said.

He said Ford Forza’s Glen Gonzales is the biggest threat to his title.

Meanwhile, Albina, who was discovered by Borromeo in a trail ride in Dumaguete City, is the newest addition to the team that also includes Marathon Queen Mary Joy Tabal, elite triathlete John Philip Dueñas, underbone champions Marc Capoy and Dondon Requilme.

“He’s a very good mountain biker, I personally saw it when he placed second in a race recently so we decided to recruit him and make him part of the team because Motorace Racing Team’s ultimate goal is to provide talented athletes support so that they can showcase their talents,” Borromeo said.

Aside from joining this year’s biggest races and sponsoring athletes, Motorace Philippines is also planning to stage its own off-road triathlon series in Cebu.
