THERE were hardly any surprises in the quarterfinals of Division 1 as the top seeds breezed through to the semifinals after logging in convincing victories in the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Sinulog Homecoming Cup last weekend at the USC North Campus gym along Mango Avenue.
The top-seeded 1993 Dragons routed the 1987 Bros, 73-54, as Bong Eleazar and Jade Ylanan combined for 30 points in the one-sided affair. John Soon also added a dozen to buoy the Dragons to the easy victory.
The defending champions 1985 Legends also notched a dominant 76-42 win over the 1984 Knights. Bing Pua led the way with 28 points while Jone Sepe added 16. Remir Mendoza chipped in 12 while German Bacaltos contributed 11.
Meanwhile, the third-seeded 1990 Titans also scored a 78-68 win over the 1986 Mighty Geeks as Hector Lawas tallied 20 markers while Engel Sievert helped the cause out by scoring 14.
And finally, the 1988 Barakos advanced to the Final Four after they ousted the 1992 Little Rascals, 90-77.
Edmund Odulio and Dindo Sausa were the catalysts for the victory as they waxed hot from the field and scored 29 and 27 points, respectively. Bonito Zanoria also provided some much-needed firepower by scoring 17.
In the semis of Division 2, the 1999ers handily dropped the 1995 Pirates, 100-63 while the Sipat 98 breezed through to the next round with an 88-67 victory. The Millennium 2000 also beat the 2002 Legendary Lions, 71-56, while the defending champions 2001 Dos Mil Uno turned back the 1994 Bulldogs, 74-60.
