‘Don’t take a selfie during processions’

TODAY’S prayer walk from the Capitol to Plaza Independencia is something you don’t see everyday.

Instead of venerating a holy statue, all eyes will be on the Blessed Sacrament or sacred host placed on a custom-made monstrance.

“What we are bringing to the streets is not an image. It is Jesus himself,” said Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo, the secretary general of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress.

Msgr. Marnel Mejia, chairman of the IEC procession committee, discouraged people from taking “selfies” during the procession.

“This is a solemn event. Let’s respect our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament,” he said.

At least 13,000 delegates from 72 different countries are expected to join the procession, which will start after the 4 p.m. Mass outside the Capitol building.

Those who prefer to stay along the streets are encouraged to be “roadside adorers.”
