THE University of San Carlos-Basic Education’s (USC-BED) woodpushers continued to dominate the January edition of McDonald’s, Jones Cup Chess Championships 2016 at the McDonald’s branch along Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.
USC-BED’s charge was spearheaded by Chris Aldritz Pondoyo, who, as of this writing, was leading the third round with three points.
He was followed by teammate Jeffu Dorog, who also had three points. John Lester Belano finished third with 2.5 points followed by another USC-BED woodpusher Vic Glysen Derotas with 2.5.
The tournament started last January 13, featuring players aged 17 and below.
“Our main goal is to develop kids and give them exposure to improve their skills in this sport since most of the kids these days are really hooked on social media and video gaming,” said organizer Benjamin Picson Jr., manager of McDonald’s, Jones branch.
