FORMER Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña today denied the involvement of Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) in the putting up of the “Welcome to Binay country” streamer at the South Road Properties (SRP) last Sunday.
Instead, he turned the blame on his political opponent, the Team Rama led by suspended Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.
“Who else could it be?” he said in a press conference he called this morning.
Osmeña showed reporters a copy of a picture of suspended Mayor Michael Rama doing “selfies” during the Statio Orbis, the closing Mass of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC), held in SRP on Sunday.
“Is he the same person who put up the streamer? I think so,” he said while holding a printed copy of the picture.
Osmeña said he wanted to clarify the issue and to debunk the claim of former City Councilor Joy Pesquera, a Team Rama member, who said in her Facebook posts that Osmeña’s son, Miguel, was involved in the putting up of the streamer.
The former mayor said Rama was “making a fool out of the people” and that doing selfies during the Holy Communion “clearly shows he has no respect for the activity and the Holy Eucharist.”
Blaming the BOPK for the putting up of the tarp, Osmeña said, was a “desperate” move.
According to Osmeña, he has no plan to take Pesquera to court for making false charges against his son, saying “she was just”seeking attention” and because “she’s losing.”
Pesquera is running for city councilor in the May elections.
Osmeña also criticized the investigation being called by Acting Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, who earlier said he ordered a probe in order to identify the culprit.
“They will investigate if it’s us. But it’s not us, nothing will come out of it,” he added.
