Cebu Landmasters-Bogo City bares lineup for CWBL regional basketball competition
If and when the Countrywide Basketball League (CWBL) starts, the Cebu Landmasters-Bogo City will be primed and ready for it.
The other Cebu team in the much-anticipated CWBL has finally been able to form a roster after the tryout that was held last Saturday at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation gym.
Named to the roster were several former PBA players, seasoned veterans from the commercial ranks and fresh graduates from the Cesafi.
According to assistant coach Armand Colina, the Cebu Landmasters will be composed of former PBA guards Eliud Poligrates and Reed Juntilla, veterans Mark Ababon, Hafer Mondragon, Mon Rogado, Jay-R Bulangis, Jeff Acain, Nat Cruz and Phil Mercader, former University of San Carlos stalwarts Charles Pepito and Nico Magat, and ex-University of the Visayas ace Alfred Codilla.
Head coach Jun Tan already submitted the lineup to Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez yesterday.
“There’s no question about the talent and skill level of the players that we have picked,” Tan said. “Kung sa abilidad pa lang, subok na. The only question here is about their conditioning. But that problem is on us coaches to solve. Hopefully, we’ll be able to start practicing soon and get these players to play as a unit.”
The Landmasters are still also waiting on three players to arrive from Manila to bolster the team’s frontcourt. Tan said that these players will shore up his frontcourt but will still have to ask permission from their mother teams in Manila.
Practice is set to start as soon as the players finish with their other basketball commitments.
CWBL management is still in the process of evaluating the applications of other teams that are interested in joining the regional basketball competition. According to league organizer Joe Lipa, the league is set to open up shop in March.
