Cebuano bowlers exploited the late start of their visiting counterparts to grab the lead in all the events being contested in the 17th Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA) Sinulog National Tenpin Open which started last Monday at the Gaisano Bowlingplex.
BTA’s senior bowler Vivian Padawan stood the tallest among local keglers as she took the top spot in the top 48 Masters’ qualifying event.
Padawan submitted a combined score of 1,325 pinfalls from the singles, doubles and three-man team events to pace the Masters qualifying.
She scored 430 pinfalls while her partner Tess Regino added 374 in the doubles for a total of 804 pinfalls followed by the duo of Bel Suelto and Bede Llano who totaled 801 pinfalls. BTA-Prima’s Aui Padawan and Xyra Cabusas are in third spot with 798 pinfalls.
Padawan also ranked a strong fifth in the singles event with 432 pinfalls and contributed 435 pinfalls for Team Single Ladies in the team event. Her team is currently in third spot with 1,199 total.
Former BTA president Bede Llano trails Padawan in the Masters qualifying with 1,310 pinfalls. He scored 443 pinfalls in the singles event good for second place and added 421 pinfalls in the doubles. He also helped Team BTA grab the top spot in the Team event by knocking down 446 pinfalls. Boy Co is in third spot with 1,281 pinfalls.
Davao Tenpin Bowling Association’s (DATBA) Sonny Dimaano is the defending Masters champion and he is expected to start his title-retention bid today.
Out-of-town keglers have started arriving yesterday to join the longest running bowling competition in Cebu.
Meanwhile, the 4th to 10th placers in the Masters competition include Oscar Ornopia (1,277), Clarence Tiu (1,259), Reggie Gulinao (1,247), Terrence Williams (1,226), Aui Padawan (1,213), Dory Enoveso (1,211) and Orly Enoveso (1,207), respectively.
