A 54-year-old former policeman was arrested in relation to a murder charge filed against him in Barangay Tabunok, Sogod town, northern Cebu.
James Arche, who had a rank of police officer 3 when he was still in the police service, was surprised with the arrest.
He admitted that he was previously charged for murder and was jailed for seven years. He was released when the case was downgraded to homicide.
The case led to Arche’s dismissal from police service. The former policeman is running for councilor in the upcoming elections.
Senior Insp. Arvi Arbuis, officer-in-charge of the Sogod Police Station, said an arrest warrant was issued against Arche after the case was reviewed and was upgraded to murder.
The arrest warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Toribio Quiwag of Branch 27 in Lapu-Lapu City.
