Firefighters said the fire originated at the one-storey house of Segundina “Nita” Abella. Abella said she left to buy chlorine and returned to see a fire broke out at her house.

She immediately looked for her one-year-old grandson, Ariston, who slept in his hammock when she left their house.

Ariston was saved by a neighbor, Miko Nudalo, who heard the baby crying. Racquel Arce, Abella’s niece, was watching TV at that time when she heard something blow up inside Abella’s house.

Arce’s house is two houses away from Abella’s house. Abella said she believed her 15-year-old TV set overheated and blew up inside her living room.
