ISABELITO Darnayla, the barangay captain of Basak in Lapu-Lapu City, was shot and wounded in a slay attempt by four suspected assailants past 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Darnayla, 53, who was carrying a firearm, managed to fire back at his shooters and was believed to have wounded one of his assailants, according to SPO2 Manolito Abellanosa, homicide investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City police.

He said Darnayla had just left his house and was heading to the barangay hall driving his Ford pickup along General Aviation Road, also in Barangay Basak, when he was ambushed  by two armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle and another group of two men riding a tricycle.

The suspects abandoned both the motorcycle and the tricycle following  a brief exchange of fire with Darnayla, Abellanosa said.

Abellanosa said Darnayla was wounded on the left side of his body and was rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital in Lapu-Lapu City. His condition was still unknown.
