A MAN DETAINED for robbery charges died inside his cell at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office yesterday morning.
Dante Ruizo, 38, was found by PO1 Nonie Cabatingan breathing heavily inside his cell.
The policemen sought help from Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation paramedics but the detainee was no longer breathing when they arrived.
Police said Ruizo was mauled by bystanders after he allegedly tried to rob Ma. Luisa dela Pedra, 55.
Police said the man barged into dela Pedra’s house, pointed a knife at her and declared a hold-up.
Dela Pedra shouted for help, prompting the man to run. Bystanders cornered and lynched him, police said.
The man had bruises in different parts of the body when he was brought to the police station.
