One dies, two injured in road mishap off Marcelo Fernan Bridge

A DRIVER of the Department of Public Works and Highways was killed while two were injured when a dumptruck rammed into a the DPWH-owned vehicle at the Lapu-Lapu City side of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge at 7:45 p.m. yesterday.

The truck, which was loaded with sand, went out of control after one of its tires exploded while discending the bridge bound for Lapu-Lapu City, said Frank Brazil, head of the City Traffic Management System (CTMS) of Lapu-Lapu City.

Brazil, who got a report from his men at the area through radio communications, said the truck first hit the multicab,  which was reportedly owned by DPWH and was conducting road repair works at the foot of the bridge, before it rammed into another DPWH vehicle, also a dumptruck, before it hit a nearby roadside store.

Brazil said CTMS personnel in the area reported that the fatality was the driver of the multicab. Two other persons were injured in the same incident, both of whom were rushed by an ambulance to the nearest hospital, he said.

Police were still investigating the incident and were yet to release the names of the fatality and the injured, said Brazil.
