Two separate fires last Sunday killed a farmer and destroyed  the session hall of the 14-year-old  Danao City legislative building.

At past midnight last Sunday, Elpidio Lauria, 57, was found dead amid the ruins of his razed house in Barangay Lusaran, Cebu City.

Police, who found the badly burnt body of Lauria, a farmer, said a lighted candle must have been the cause of the fire.

Police said Lauria, who lived alone, came home from a drinking spree with relatives who were celebrating a wedding at past 11 p.m. on Saturday — at least an hour earlier before his house was razed by fire.

On early Sunday evening, in Danao City, the session hall at the Danao City legislative building was destroyed by fire.

SFO1 William Manzo, chief investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Danao City, estimated the damage to property at P100,000.

Manzo said they were looking into faulty electrical wiring as the cause of the fire since the session hall has been undergoing renovation.

The fire alarm was raised at 7:30 p.m. and fire was put out  at 7:40 p.m.

Manzo said they immediately controlled the fire and contained it in one room only — the session hall, which is on the 2nd floor of the two-story legislative building.
