‘Honor Thy Father’ wins big at the 14th Gawad Tanglaw Awards

AFTER being disqualified for the Best Picture category during the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival, “Honor Thy Father” has bounced back big time, bagging the major awards at the 14th Gawad Tanglaw Awards.

The Pambansang Lupon ng GAWAD Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw (Gawad-Tanglaw) is composed of academicians who review and monitor films, TV shows and print media and pick the best of the best in various categories.

Emerging on top was “Honor Thy Father,” which was named Best Picture while John Lloyd Cruz and Meryll Soriano won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress,
respectively. Erik Matti was named Best Director while Michiko Yamamoto won Best Screenplay. Erwin Romulo also won Best Musical Scoring for the same film.

Tied with Soriano for the Best Supporting Actress category was Pilar Pilapil (“Etiquette for Mistresses”).

Tessie Tomas, who played  a grandmother for “Old Skool” won Best Actress. JM de Guzman was named Best Supporting Actor for “Imbisibol.”

For television, ABS-CBN’s “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” won major awards which include the Best TV Series and Coco Martin for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Series.

Tied with Martin in the same category is Paulo Avelino who got the same recognition for “Bridges of Love.”

Alden Richards (“The Alden Richards Story” for Magpakailanman) and Gerald Anderson (“Class Picture” for Maalaala Mo Kaya) tied for Best Performance by an Actor, Single Performance.

Jodi Sta. Maria who played Amor Powers in “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” and Julia Montes for “Doble-Kara” also tied for the Best Performance by an actress in a series while Angel Aquino won Best Performance by an Actress, Single Performance for “Medical Record” in Maalaala Mo Kaya. ABS-CBN Network won TV Station of the Year.

The Gawad Tanglaw Awards will also give out Special Awards including Natatanging Gawad sa TV (Edukasyon) for ABS-CBN’S “Nathaniel,” Natatanging BATA (Bibo, Aktibo, at Talentadong Anak ni Sining) for Marco Antonio Masa, also for “Nathaniel,” and Natatanging Tanglaw ng Kabataan sa Sining ng Telebisyon for Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye) on GMA 7.

The venue and date for the awards night have yet to be announced.
