THIS weekend, it will be hot and sunny again.
The “improved weather condition” this weekend means that the tail-end of a cold front, which has brought intermittent rains and lower than usual temperature in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas for a week now, will no longer prevail, said Alfredo Quiblat Jr., chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan.
“On Saturday, the easterly winds will start to prevail, which (means there is) lesser chance of rains,” Quiblat said by phone yesterday.
With easterly winds, the temperatures will range from a low of 25°C to a high of 32°C, he said.
The intermittent rains experienced in Cebu in the past few days translated to less than 10 millimeters of rainfall while weather temperatures were recorded from 24°C to 30°C, according to Quiblat.
Quiblat explained that the tail end of a cold front is caused by the overlapping of warm and cold winds in the upper latitude but it is experienced in the Philippines due to the northeast monsoon or the “Amihan,” a wind pattern that brings rainfall and cold winds from Siberia.
Meanwhile, no major weather disturbance has been monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). “Based on our records, there are no typhoons in January and February,” Quiblat said.
