Man accused of blackmailing ex-lover charged

A MAN is facing trial for allegedly uploading the nude photos of his ex-girlfriend on Facebook.

The Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office found sufficient basis to indict Mark (not his real name) on charges of violating the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.

“The naked photos of the complainant and her pictures that showed things done in private must remain in private,” said Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Naruzen Delfin-Lorete in her resolution.

Cebu Daily News is withholding the name of the accused to protect the identity of the victim.

The complainant, 18, said she and the accused knew each other through Facebook sometime in 2012.

They corresponded until they became lovers.

In 2015, however, they broke up. The complainant said Mark texted her and threatened to upload their sex video if she would not give him money.

The complainant first gave in to Mark’s demand and gave the accused P500.

However, she said Mark still uploaded her nude photos on Facebook.

The complainant sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) which eventually filed a case against Mark before the prosecutors’ office.

When given the chance to refute the allegations, Mark did not submit any counter-affidavit, prompting the prosecutor to recommend the filing of charges against the accused in court.
