City Hall asked to help promote Mega Cebu

THE Mega Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) called on the Cebu City government to help promote their vision of a unified and progressive Cebu.

“What we need is support from the Cebu City government to help us build awareness about the Mega Cebu 2050 vision, our development strategy, the unified Cebu branding, and many of our other activities,” Mega Cebu communication and stakeholder relationship manager Carol Ballesteros told the Cebu City Council in last Wednesday’s regular session.

Ballesteros said Cebu City is obligated to help raise and build public awareness and participation since it is an MCDCB member.

The Mega Cebu 2050 vision emphasizes participatory governance in order to create a “vibrant, equitable, sustainable and competitive environment” that embraces Cebu’s unique cultural and historical practices.

She said Mega Cebu’s main information dissemination platform of public fora and online promotion had not been enough to build “a deeper understanding of Mega Cebu and what it stands for.”

While the councilors remained positive about Mega Cebu, they were concerned about the level of commitment the Mega Cebu team was expecting.

“If this is on the level of branding and awareness only, then just coordinate with our tourism committees and make sure we are aligned. But on the level of project coordination, especially with larger projects, we may need to discuss this more,” Councilor Margot Osmeña said.
Ballesteros said this is more of a brand awareness campaign.
