Rama remembers Don Vicente, his 60-days suspension in Charter Day message

Cebu City mayor Michael Rama led the floral offering at the bronze monument of Don Vicente Rama, the father of the city’s charter, on Wednesday morning.

He later led the soft-opening of the children’s park in barangay Pasil and the ceremonial cement pouring for the Cebu City Medical Center construction project.

Rama said in his Charter Day message that 2016 is a challenging year for his administration especially since the year started with his suspension from an administrative case filed by Labangon Barangay Captain Victor Buendia.

But he is happy that he it made it through.

“Charter Day will always be memorable to the City of Cebu. But this year, we shall remember that despite everything we have been through as a city, we will always make it through,” he said.

Rama led a gathering of city hall officials and employees at the Plaza Sugbu grounds at 7:30 a.m. for a mass officiate by Msgr. Achilles Dakay After the mass, Rama led the floral offering at his grandfather’s bronze monument at Plaza Sugbu.

He later proceeded to Barangay Pasil for the soft opening of the children’s park before proceeding to CCMC for the ceremonial cement pouring.

City Hall is also hosting a testimonial dinner and recognition of outstanding individuals on Wednesday night.

The city government set aside P3 million for this year’s Charter Day activities.

In his message, Rama mentioned of his 60-days suspension, the refusal of the City Council’s opposition block to pass the 2015 Supplemental Budget 1 and former mayor Tomas Osmena’s insinuations that he is a drug addict.

But he said that despite all the difficulties that he had to go through, there is still reason to remember Don Vicente Rama and celebrate the 79th year of Cebu City’s cityhood.
