Davao City Mayor and presidential candidate Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte is hoping to get the support of the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) party, a Durano-led political party in Danao City, Cebu.
Duterte said, however, that he wouldn’t mind if the group chooses Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares over him.
“Wa koy mahimo. Wa may problema. Demokrasya man ni. (I can’t do anything about it. I have no problem about it. It’s democracy),” he told reporters in a brief interview prior to leaving Danao City on Thursday afternoon.
Former congressman Joseph “Ace” Durano, a scion of the Durano clan, is the campaign manager of Poe and her running mate Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
Duterte, who traces his roots to Danao City, arrived in Cebu Thursday noon as part of his Rondaserye.
He offered a wreath at the monument of Lapu-Lapu in Barangay Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City and later met with employees of the Mactan Economic Zone for a dialog before he traveled to Danao City, located 47.8 kilometers north of Cebu City.
He was greeted by a crowd of about 8,000 people at the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Danao campus, the grounds of which were decked with blue and red flaglets.
He told the crowd that if elected president, he would honor Lapu-Lapu as a hero by declaring a national day for him.
“Kamo nay assess sa inyong kandidato. Wa man pud ko mag-ingon nga ako tungod kay taga-ngari ko. Bahala ang katawhan motan-aw (You should assess your own candidates. I won’t tell you to choose me because I came from here. I will leave it up to the people),” he told the crowd.
He later told reporters that even the crowd turnout in Danao is not an indication of whether he would win.
“Ang katawhan ang modesider ana ug ang Ginoo. Dili ako (The people and God will decide, not me),” he said.
