Globe Media Excellence Awards accept entries

GLOBE Telecom announced in last Tuesday’s 888 News Forum that they are now accepting entries for this year’s Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA).

GMEA will give recognition to members of the media who made valuable impact to its readers through his or her works and made significant contributions to improve the quality of local journalism.

It is anchored on Globe Telecom’s commitment to align itself with the United Nation’s sustainability development goals in four major areas of concerns, such as care for the environment, care for the people, positive societal impact and digital nation.

In commemoration of its fifth year, which they consider to be a milestone year, Globe Telecom is pushing for a bigger, better, and grander event and has increased the prizes for each of the categories.

Doris Mongaya, chief executive officer of PRWorks and public relations officer of Globe Telecom, said the GMEA has been significant in improving the quality of local journalism, for journalist to always strive for media excellence, and has paved the way for practitioners from different areas to learn about each other.

“This is an award ceremony for both traditional and digital channels,” she said.

“At some point, these channels will converge. This event is a great way for both traditional and digital media practitioners to know and learn about each other,” she added.

Each participant is allowed to submit up to six entries and each entry must be published or aired within the period of May 2015 up to April 2016.

Entries written in the vernacular do not  need to be translated to English anymore, unlike in the previous years.

Deadline for submission is on April 29, with the awarding ceremony to be held on Sept. 22, during the Press Freedom Week.
