‘WARRANT DAY’ NETS 52

AT LEAST 52 individuals have been arrested since the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) implemented a “warrant day,” a program that the police launched to hunt persons with pending arrest warrants.

Supt. Artemio Ricabo, CCPO’s deputy director for administration, said in a press briefing that all of the 853 warrants of arrest backlogs had been served by the 11 police stations in just two days.

“The station commanders should immediately serve warrants once they have them, so the (subject) persons couldn’t leave yet. They should also go for high-profile criminals, like the arrest of each station’s top 10 most wanted criminals,” said Ricabo.

He explained that for more than 800 warrants of arrest, only 52 were arrested since some cases were already dismissed before the arrest was implemented.

“We will arrest them and it will be up to the court to determine if they can be freed depending on the status of the case,” he said.
