Rama orders transfer of facility for night dwellers

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama ordered the transfer of a temporary holding facility for night dwellers in Barangay Lorega San Miguel.

He said barangay officials of Lorega also asked him to transfer the P4-million facility that’s prefabricated and can be disassembled.

Rama said the barangay is still reeling from the effects of the huge fire which hit the area two years ago, and they want to rehabilitate the area.

Alvin Santillana, who heads the Sustainable Poverty Reduction, Economic Alleviation and Development (SPREAD) program, was tasked to identify an area where the facility can be transferred to.

Santillana said he coordinated with Dr. Ester Concha, who heads the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) and they agreed to transfer the facility to Barangay Duljo-Fatima near the  Community Scouts Center area of DSWS.

“There’s also a vacant area there. We also have to coordinate with the Community Scouts on how to put up the facility,” he said. The facility was completed mid-February but it hasn’t been operational due to the transfer request.
