CONSTRUCTION of a Cebu Ocean Park is underway at Cebu City’s South Road Properties (SRP).
SRP Manager Roberto “Bu” Varquez said the contractor started pile driving for the foundation of the one-hectare facility which is located in the lot beside the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel last February.
“It’s really something new for Cebu. I think for Visayas and Mindanao, this will be the first ocean park of that size especially that we’re trying to also attract local tourists. It will add up to Cebu’s destinations and additional things to Cebu and hopefully this can generate more tourists for us,” he told reporters yesterday.
Construction is expected to be finished in 20 months or in October 2017.
The Cebu Ocean Park will have an oceanarium that will carry 4,000 cubic meters of water where marine species can be placed.
It will also have a walkway where people can pass through and observe different marine animals.
The facility will also have an amphitheater where dolphin and sea lion shows can be held as well as a Jungle Trek featuring different kinds of fauna.
It will be located at the left side of the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel which is still within the 30-hectare property of SM Seaside Complex.
SM is leasing the lot to Cebu Sealife Park, Inc. which also developed the renowned Manila Ocean Park.
