Inmate tricks police, fakes ailment to escape

A 33-YEAR-OLD inmate of Tuburan Police Station complained of severe abdominal pain several hours after he was arrested last Thursday.

Police brought Ronel George Dongallo to the town’s health center but the inmate had other things in mind.

Dongallo escaped while his two police escorts PO1 Brandon Ceneza and PO1 Rolando Dungog were talking to a nurse to inquire if there was a doctor who could attend to the inmate.

Dongallo, a resident of Barangay Mangga, Tuburan, was arrested around 5 a.m. last Thursday on charges of  violating Republic Act (RA) 9165 otherwise known as the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The arrest was implemented based on a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Roben Altobar of Branch 29 in Toledo City.

Around 11 a.m. of the same day, Dongallo kept on shouting in his cell and complaining of abdominal pain.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of the Tuburan police, ordered his men to bring the inmate to the town health center.

Police said Dongallo, who was handcuffed, found an opportunity to escape while the two policemen were conferring with the nurse.

Dongallo ran outside the center passing through the main door and made  his way to a sugarcane field.

The two policemen gave chase but failed to locate the inmate.

An operation to recapture the inmate is in progress, police said.
