ALDUB Nation (the collective term to call fans of the phenomenal loveteam AlDub or Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub) proved they are still the fandom to beat as Maine Mendoza won the Favorite Pinoy Personality Award at the 2016 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
Mendoza stumped the competition—Enrique Gil, James Reid and Kathryn Bernardo—and was declared winner during the telecast held yesterday morning.
While fans waited with bated breath for the announcement, Mendoza was with Richards and their “Eat Bulaga” team at the Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan to shoot a TV commercial.
Since she was unable to personally receive the Orange Blimp, Mendoza sent a video message as her acceptance speech.
“I would really love to hold this Orange Blimp right now, but since I’m away for vacation, maybe this will do, for now. Cool ‘no? I love you all,” she said as she blew a kiss to the camera.
It appears that Mendoza had already been informed about her victory as early as March 10, since in the video message for her fans, she is seen wearing the outfit she wore that day for “Eat Bulaga’s” Kalyeserye segment.
The nominations were announced on February 3 and Mendoza’s and AlDub’s fans actively campaigned for votes on the Nickelodeon website to ensure the young superstar’s win.
According to Nickelodeon Awards’ Twitter page, Mendoza’s total votes reached 63,921,202 while her tightest competition, Kathryn Bernardo got 53,368,292.
Enrique Gil had 16,704,118 while James Reid came in last with 14,073,104 votes.
Meanwhile, Jeron Teng of La Salle won the Favorite Asian Sports Star award, beating Irfan Fandi of Singapore, Pandelela of Malaysia and Kim Kurniawan of Indonesia.
