THE Cebu provincial government has received 50 brand-new wheelchairs valued at P140,000 from the Filipino-Chinese Amity Club (FCAC) national and Cebu chapters.

Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale received the donations last March 6 on behalf of Gov. Hilario Davide III, who was in Manila.

“We are very grateful for these donations. We really need this medical equipment,” said Magpale.

FCAC national chapter vice president Chan Man Fai said the wheelchairs are intended to help the less-fortunate in the community.

Provincial Health Officer Cynthia Genesolango said the donated wheelchairs will be distributed to the four provincial and 12 district hospitals in the province.

“We will look into the current inventory of each hospital and see how many of their wheelchairs are still functioning. Then, we will distribute accordingly,” she said.

FCAC was organized in 1975 after  diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China was established, said Chan.

“We aim to enhance and strengthen friendly relations among Filipinos and Chinese,” he added. /PR
