Jonkie Ouano set to substitute late dad as One Cebu’s PB bet

ONE Cebu has officially appointed Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano as  substitute to his father, the late Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, in this year’s polls.

Winston Garcia, One Cebu chairman, said in a statement that there’s no other person who can “fit in the late Board Member Thadeo Teddy Ouano’s shoes but his son, Jonkie.”

Jonkie will file his substitution papers before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu provincial office at 10 a.m. today, the statement further read.

He is substituting his father, who died last month due to complications from cancer and diabetes, as 6th district representative in the PB. The late board member was eyeing a third term under the One Cebu banner. He ran under the Liberal Party in previous polls.

Jonkie is is the brother of Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lollipop” Ouano-Dizon, One Cebu’s standard-bearer in the city and the brother of  former PB Member Alfredo Francis “Alfie” Ouano, who is running for councilor in Consolacion town.

The youngest among the three, the 41-year-old businessman said he had no plans to return to politics after he ran for and lost the Mandaue City mayoralty in 2007 to Mayor Jonas Cortes.

“This was not planned. All of us thought Papa would recover. I did not intend to come back to politics,” he said in a phone interview yesterday.
